WEDDING DRESS SHOPPING: TOP TIPS FROM THE FITTING ROOM

Happy Friday everyone!
I’m thrilled to welcome a new addition to Bridal Musing’s team of contributors. Meet the lovely Sama, our resident wedding dress expert.
Sama is a bridal consultant at top London bridal boutique, Blackburn Bridal Couture, where she helps stylish brides, just like you, to choose their dream dress. She is also a bride to be herself and editor of The Utter Blog where she obsesses about all things weddings. (A girl after my own heart).
Lucky for us she will be stopping by regularly with her hints tips and advice on finding the perfect wedding dress – straight from the fitting room!
Well, hello there Bridal Muso’s, and thank you so much Elizabeth for inviting me on to your gorgeous blog! For those who don’t know me (erm… probably 99% of you), my name is Sama and I’m lucky enough to work at the utterly fabulous Blackburn Bridal Couture – one of London’s BEST bridal boutiques, if I say so myself.
I’ve been there a couple of years now, and it really is a wonderful job with a wonderful team, and despite my fears that it would put me off weddings for life, it absolutely hasn’t. I genuinely love helping brides find their wedding dress, and I’m pleased to say I’ve come a long way since my very first day when, channeling my inner professional woman, I turned up in a little black number and 4″ heels.
(Note to self: do not wear stilettos in a job where you barely sit down.)

The gorgeous Blackburn Bridal Couture, London
Not only do I now work in the industry, but I’m a bride-to-be myself (just over 4 months to go – yikes!) so have experienced the highs and lows of dress shopping from both sides of the fitting room curtain, so to speak.
For me, the essence of my job comes down to building a relationship with the person standing semi-naked in front of me and listening to what they have to say; to finding out all about their wedding plans and becoming their confidante when Mum is screaming ‘you’re too exposed!’ or friends are thinking more about what they’d wear rather than the person they’ve come to support.
Wedding dress shopping is an emotional minefield; at times enjoyable but more often than not stressful and bloody confusing! Every bridal shop works differently and your experiences will vary greatly. You have been warned.
So to kick off this series on Bridal Musings, I thought I’d condense everything I’ve learnt in the last couple of years in to one Top-Tip style post.
It may seem brutal at points but I consider it essential reading for all brides-to-be out there about to make the biggest purchase of their life. I hope you find it helpful…

*Disclaimer: These are my personal views, please take lightly*
1. Wedding dresses are expensive - do your research.
Scrap that – wedding dresses are bloody expensive. Before working in bridal I’d always imagined I’d spend around £1000 on a dress but in reality the choice at that price point is really very limited. We meet a lot of brides who have started dress shopping with a figure in their heads and have quickly upped it when they’ve realised what they get for their money. There’s a lot of fabric in a wedding dress, and good quality fabric comes at a cost. Do your research. When you see a wedding dress you like the look of in a blog or magazine, ring the shop and find out the price. Once you have an idea of how much you’re going to spend, call the shops you have your eye on and make sure your price range fits with theirs. There’s no point going to a shop that starts from £2k if your maximum budget is £1500.

2. Have a budget and stick to it.
At my boutique we always ask if there is a budget at the beginning of the consultation. This is not to judge you and laugh you out of the shop if you don’t have a huge spend. This is to keep your shopping experience enjoyable and positive and, ultimately, to help you find a dress. Yes, you want to try on the most expensive dress in the shop – of course you do, it’s beautiful – but what will you do if you like it more than any other dress you try? It’s very unlikely that you’re going to buy it. It’s more likely you’ll get depressed. Everyone has a budget, even if you don’t think you do. Try and establish what you’re seriously prepared to spend up to, and stick to it.

3. Keep your guests to a minimum – and choose wisely!
Bridesmaid Gifts at The Knot Wedding Shop
Dress shopping is supposed to be fun. The temptation is to gather a group of your friends and family and to spend a lovely day ‘oohing’ and ‘ahhing’ and quaffing champagne together. But the reality is slightly different – a) very few shops actually offer champagne (sorry to disappoint you), and b) do you really want 5 different opinions? Are you sure you want to be zipped in to a dress that puts a big smile on your face, only to be told ‘No!’ or ‘I don’t like that one’, as you step out of the changing room? We would always advise doing the initial round of shops either on your own or with one person who you trust implicitly (mum, sister, best friend etc). Once you have established what you want and made a short list (short list I said – that’s 3, not 12) of your favourite dresses, then you can ask your wider circle for their valued opinions.
4. To sample sale or not to sample sale…
                                                 The Knot Wedding Shop
I’m going to be blunt here: if you have more than 6 months to go ’til your wedding and a healthy spend, don’t bother with a sample sale. Sample sales are fantastic for brides who are short of time or have a very limited budget. But if you have a specific idea of what you’re after (“vintage lace with a v-neck, and possibly 3/4 length sleeves”), then you’re very unlikely to find it at a sale. Dresses being sold as samples are generally those that have been discontinued by the designer or have proved unpopular in the shop. That gorgeous Jenny Packham gown that you’re seeing all over the magazines? It’s not gonna be in the sample sale (sorry). But most importantly, don’t go to a sample sale if you’re at the start of your dress shopping journey as it’s very unlikely you’ll be ready to buy a dress that day, and you will be pressured to do so.
5. Trust your sales consultant – she is very wise.
Or she should be, if she’s any good at her job! No-one knows the dresses better than the person helping you. She’s not a Jedi Knight – she won’t necessarily pull out the dress of your dreams the moment you walk in. But when you’re approaching the end of your consultation and you’ve ‘quite liked’ some but haven’t gone crazy over any, and your friends are running round plucking more off the rails that they like but have no idea what they look like on, turn to the lady helping you and ask ‘what would you recommend?’. If she knows her stuff she should, at that point, be able to suggest something that ticks most or all of the boxes, but that you didn’t necessarily pick out at the beginning of the consultation.

                                         Elizabeth Messina via Style Unveiled

6. ‘It’s how you feel, not how you look.’
This has actually become my mantra at work but it’s true. There is a reason that many bridal shops do not allow you to take photos: 1- There is a copyright issue. 2- Photos taken on a camera phone in a beige room under dodgy, artificial lighting when you have no make-up on and your sister is too close/far away/rubbish at taking photos are not going to be a true representation of how you actually look in the dress. You do not need to remember every single dress you try on; you will naturally remember (maybe not in detail, but you will remember) the dresses that felt the best. And they are the ones that you put on your short list and visit again. I have seen too many confused brides who have image after image on their phones and who are dismissing dresses because ‘my arm looks fat’ or ‘the third flower from the left is too big’. If it doesn’t feel right, it probably doesn’t look right. If it does feel right, and by this I mean if it makes you feel sexy or elegant or demure or relaxed or however you want to feel on your wedding day, well then, you’re on your way to finding your dress.
Shop Wedding Supplies at The Knot

7. Don’t sweat the small stuff.
I’m not diminishing the importance of The Wedding Dress here. It is, after all, the most amount of money you will ever spend on an item of clothing, ever. But when you have narrowed it down to your final three and you’re stressing out because you love them all and you don’t know how you’re ever going to choose… Stop. Take a step back and say to yourself: ‘It’s just a dress. It’s just a lovely dress that makes me feel happy and special and that I’m going to wear the day I marry Bob/Jamie/Tarquin.’ Because that’s why you’re having a wedding after all; to marry the love of your life. And he’s just going to be happy that you’ve turned up.

Blogging Success - An Introduction ! Earnin From Blog or Websit tips!

Want to have blogging success? Here are some no-nonsense advice to ensure that you achieve this goal.
Blogging success is yours, no doubt about it. But first, you need to know and fully understand how to build a strong foundation. But before the advice, here's a story.

I am so behind the times. But I must say I'm catching up really fast. In the past few days, I've been devouring whatever information I can about SEO, how to earn money by blogging, how to create great Squidoo lenses, and Google.

Earning From Blogging Tips

1. Unlearn and update outdated knowledge.

Start with a clean slate.

Let me tell you that I'm very open to suggestions and constructive criticisms.

In my readings, I came across different suggestions, tips, and guidelines on a gazillion of topics -- particularly, on the following: how to maximize your earning potential online, how to write better Squidoo lenses, what free tools to use, and how to change the appearance of my blog.

I already know some of these things, but I didn't see their importance until now.

So, yes, I'm very busy unlearning outdated knowledge and voraciously reading blogs of top webmasters to update what I know.

Know the truth about earning money online by writing articles.

2. Wordpress is better than Blogger.

So if you haven't yet, make the switch now!

I've been using Blogger for more than three years now. I heard about Wordpress before, but since I wasn't interested in seriously earning money at the time, I didn't bother playing with the widgets. Of course, this is a mistake. But at least, I was able to compare both platforms.

Both have strengths and weaknesses, but overall, Wordpress trumps Blogger.

So if you're still using Blogger, I strongly suggest that you switch to Wordpress. It's more SEO-friendly and it has more functionalities.

Accept it.

.

But what's the difference?

www.1and1.co.uk
But nobody told me that Wordpress.com and Wordpress.org are two different sites!

I bought two domains off Wordpress.com, but I had to cancel because moments after the purchase, I found out that I couldn't customize my template unless I pay $30. That's on top of an $18-upgrade to get my own domain name from Wordpress.com.

Fortunately, I got my refund a week later, so I was able to consider other options.

4. Blogging is harder than it looks.

So work hard, and never give up!

I've read somewhere that there are more than half a million blogs in the world right now. And with the success stories of a few bloggers, there's no doubt that this number will continue to increase over the next few months (and in years to come).

AMBRINA - Most Powerful Herbal Sex Pill.

But earning from blogging requires tons of endurance and strong determination.

It's easy to create quality content, but attracting people to come read you on a regular basis is quite a challenge, especially if your blog has nothing new to offer. So when it gets frustrating, because believe me, it will, never ever give up. Instead, push yourself harder and take everything as a challenge. Once you've unlocked effective methods and strategies, you'll eventually reach your goals.

5. A self-hosted blog / site earns more.

Ditch that free hosted blog.

As I said, I've been blogging for more than three years now, but my topics were about things that do not really address a problem and offer a solution. So I settled for hosted or free sites.

But believe it or not, it's only a couple of days ago that I realized the true importance of having yourown domain name. So I spent hours and hours understanding terms such as FTP and registrar, and after three days, I successfully set up WritetoEarnOnline.com.

And I think it looks nice, won't you agree?

Set up a self-hosted blog / site in 3 easy steps!

I invested in GoDaddy's web hosting and domain name registration services, and with coupons, I paid only less than $15 for a three-month web-hosting service and a one-year domain name registration.

Pretty cheap, eh?

You can have your own self-hosted blog, too, at a cheaper price. Head over to GoDaddy.com and choose from among the discounts.
                  www.1and1.co.uk

6. Be social.

WritetoEarnOnline.comI am not a "social" person. I loathe spending time on Facebook prying on other people's business, but if I want to attract a solid following for my blog, I have to be social.

So I joined Google+, set up a Facebook page for my site, and created different accounts with Twitter, LinkedIn, Scribd, Redgage, and several others.

Now my next step is to build strong relationships.

7. Content is king, traffic is queen.

You have quality content? What now?

Content is king, traffic is queen should be one of your mantras.

What good is quality content if nobody visits your site and reads your posts? In other words, you can't expect your site to earn money by relying on accidental visitors who would re-post your posts in hopes that they will eventually go viral.

No, it doesn't work that way.

I spent two days working on my site's content by organizing everything, editing what needs to be edited, proofreading grammar errors, and removing unnecessary posts. Currently, I'm working on driving traffic to my blog.

Learn how to drive more traffic to your blog.

8. Take Google seriously.

WritetoEarnOnline.comGoogle runs this place.

I can't beat it, so I might as well use it to my advantage.

It's safe to assume that most Internet users rely heavily on Google, so if you want to achieve your online earning objectives, learn to befriend the search engine giant and know a thing or two about SEO.

7 Quick Ways For College Students To Make Money Online

ways to make money in collegeI received an email the other day from a College Student wanting to know how they could find some quick ways to make money online. The email stated they didn’t have a lot of time because of their studies. So after giving it some thought, I came up with a list of 7 quick ways college students to make money online.
I dismissed blogging in general because it takes some time to learn how to make money fast (the exception is local websites and blogs, see below). I assumed the emailer needed to find ways to make money fast.
Here are my suggestions to the emailer.

  1. Project Payday: A few months ago, I experimented with a way to make money quick online with a program called Project Payday. I took a day and researched this project online. Seemed real people were making real money with it. Not getting rich, but making enough extra money quickly to pay some bills or other stuff.

The next day I signed up with  Project Payday, watched the training video’s and browsed the Forums to get a feel as to how this program worked. In all, this process took me a few hours. The next day I followed the directions and made myself available for some “offers”. The first day, I made $55. The next day I hit it hard for about 6 hours and brought down $105 for my efforts. The following day, I worked 3 to 4 hours total and made $65. I soon found out one drawback to this program. It’s boring! No special skills are needed other than the know-how to operate your computer and use the Internet, but it is tedious work. I’m not cut out to spend hours behind a computer! Most people can make money quickly with this program, but you’ll have to put the time into it. The more time you put into it, the more money you’ll make generally. It’s not rocket science but you will have to keep track of the trials you sign up for. If you’re interested, check out Project Payday by  c licking here. It’s free to sign up if you fill out an offer or you can buy directly into the program. Next you’ll need to read the promotional literature they have and watch the training video’s. They even have a guarantee that says if you follow the simple 4 step process in Method 1 and don’t make money in 24 hours, they’ll give you $100! This is the best guarantee I’ve seen online. I doubt anyone will need it though, because I found it easy to make money with Project Payday although it was boring computer work.
    1. Read Emails – Taking Online Survey’s, etcIn my opinion, this isn’t as easy as Project Payday, but it’s real close. There are companies that receive thousands of emails every day that need to be read. Obviously the CEO or other employees can’t spend every day reading emails, so they outsource this. There are several companies where they outsource this type of work as well as other tedious, time consuming chores such as product testing, online surveys, online mystery shopping and other. Send Earnings is one such company that other companies outsource to. Consumers such as you sign up and are normally paid on a per assignment completed basis. The pay varies by what type of assignment you choose. You choose where you want to make money.  Click Here to learn more or to sign up for this opportunity.

    1. Become an Online Researcher- Large Corporations today rely on tons of data and feedback from consumers to develop and improve their product lines. Many use focus groups to test products and services before the general public ever gets chance to see it. MySurvey is one company that provides this kind of market research and feedback data to these Corporations. They do this through people like you. How? You  sign up with MySurvey and take survey’s about consumer products and services. Each survey is designated with a certain number of points. When you complete the survey or market research questionaire, your awarded those points. When you reach the minimum amount for a cash out (every company is different as to what point you can cash out) they will pay you. Generally through PayPal. So you get the money pretty quick. TIP: Never, ever pay a company to take market research surveys. Legitimate companies will never require you to pay. MySurvey has FREE signup and you can get started earning money through them pretty darn quick! Click here to visit the Official MySurvey page.

    1. Make Money On Ebay - There are many ways to make money with eBay. It seems that the 2 most popular ways are either by going to Garage Sales or Estate Sales and buying stuff to resell. You can make some decent money this way. Back in 2001 I did this same thing for several months and I made around $700-$1500 per month. But it was long hard work making all those auctions or driving around looking for deals at Garage sales. Another way that is becoming more and more popular is people starting their own online stores and stocking them with products from wholesalers and dropshippers. But you have to be on your guard with these, not all of them are on the up and up.
    2. Become an Online Tutor – I’m not sure what this pays, but I’ve known people in the past who have worked with companies like  e-Tutor,  SmartThinking and  Earn money quickly.
    1.  Online tutoring is an in-demand service and growing all the time. If you like helping others learn, this could be just the ticket for you. You will have to set aside a certain number of hours per week, anywhere from 2 hours on up on average depending upon which service you go with.
    2. SwagBucks – Although you can’t make money directly with Swagbucks, you can earn free gift cards and merchandise. My Wife uses Swagbucks as well and loves getting the Amazon.com gift cards to get stuff from Amazon, but Swagbucks has their own catalog of nice products. In fact, she has gotten some nice jewelry from them for her and our daughter. The way this works is that you earn points by browsing the Internet using the SwagBucks tool bar (downloading is easy, free and you’ll rack up points faster by using it to search the Internet with) and doing other things like taking polls and survey’s or watching video’s.
    3. I know several people who get their free merchandise like jewelry or electronics and then turn around and sell them for a nice profit on Ebay and Craigslist. If you surf the web a lot, then this may be just the thing for you. I sign in every time I surf the Internet or shop online and my points rack up fairly quick. I also watch their video’s and take their polls to add my points to my account. Click here to check out Swagbucks! What’s cool is you can sign up through your favorite Social Netowrk like Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Yahoo and Google. I’m betting you’ll see some of your friends who are using Swagbucks to get gifts and merchandise!
    4. Become an Online Juror – Even Lawyers need to practice! There are places such a eJury and TrialJuries.Com that stage mock trials. The Jurors get paid anywhere from $5 to $60 depending on how complex the case is. There’s no guarantee you’ll get a case, but it has to better than cleaning up after the old folks at the Senior Citizen Center! Many colleges have access to these mock jury trials, but from what I’ve been told, they don’t pay as much as the online jury pools. Also, as with anything in life, if you slack off on the Jury, don’t expect to be called back. The more you pay attention and get involved, the more likely they’ll “keep your name around.”
Some college students show up on the first day in a bright shiny BMW convertible. Those are the ones who do not need help. For most College Students, a few extra dollars a month goes a long ways in making it easier to study for their classes. If you’re in a pinch, there’s no need to run down to the Blood Center to give blood, just turn your computer on and go to work with these quick and simple ways to make money fast.

Earn Money To visit websites! Pay Proof is available ! its Free

Fourth payment from ClixSense was received a few days ago. Thank you very much !!!

Ok, the secret to winning in the ClixGrid is to increase your odds. This does not mean you will win. It means you have a greater chance of winning.

The way to increase your odds, thereby increasing your chances of winning, is by clicking in the ClixGrid every day, the allotted amount of clicks.

Understand, the ClixGrid is a game of chance. Just like buying a lotto ticket, is chance winnings. Only thing is, you don't pay anything to try and win in the ClixGrid. The more you play, the greater your odds of winning.

There is no little men behind the squares. There is no secret winning links behind the squares. Nothing is behind the squares except for the advertisers ad link. Due to programming coding, every so often, when someone views a ClixGrid ad, at random, a winner happens!

Making designs out of the squares will not help you win
Clicking in any specific squares, will not help you win

The only thing that helps you win, is to click the total amount you can, every day. This increases your odds of winning.

HINT: Try clicking in the ClixGrid, at the same time every day. I have no idea if you will win but it makes good sense to me because it is chance relevant. Common sense, if you will.

Good Luck!
